Johann Daniel Brehmer was
born about 1760. He died on 7 March 1832 in Gross Raddow, Kreis
Regenwalde, Pomerania at the age of 72 years. He
lived in Gross Raddow, Kreis Regenwalde, Pommern at the time of the birth of his
sons Christian Friedrich Brehmer in 1805 and Carl Heinrich Brehmer in 1808,
and that is also where he died.
He was identified as an "Einlieger" in the baptismal records of these
sons and also on his burial record. An Einlieger was the name given
to a laborer who worked on a farm, but owned no land. The Gross Raddow church records prior to
1805 have not been found.
Many of the church records were destroyed or lost during World War II and in the expulsion of
the Germans following the war. The Brehmer name was sometimes spelled as
Braemer in the church records.
There were several Brehmer families living in
the area of Neu Damerou, Sassenhagen, Uchtenhagen and Mulkenthin, Kreis Saatzig,
Pomerania. In fact, there was one by the name of Johann Daniel
Brehmer who was born on 22 November 1778, whose parents were farmer:
Johann and Elizabeth (Tesch) Brehmer. It is possible that Johann
Daniel Brehmer was born in this area considering some residents in Gross Raddow did move
from there.
Dorothea Sophie Roloff was born in
Gross Raddow, her roots were documented through the secular village history back to
about 1680. Her parents were Johann Roloff, Sexton of the church,
and Dorothea Luedcke. Her grandfather was Friedrich Roloff, Church Sexton, and her great grandfather was also Friedrich Roloff,
Church Sexton.
Johann Daniel Brehmer and Dorothea Sophie Roloff
were probably married about 1785, however the Gross Raddow Evangelical Church
records prior to 1805 have not been found. There were probably other children born to their marriage,
but only these five have been
identified. None of the sponsors at the baptism of
their sons had the Brehmer surname.
Dorothea Luise Brehmer was born on 10
September 1794 in Gross Raddow. She married Georg Friedrich Schumann
about 1820 in Gross Raddow.
Johann Carl Brehmer was born about
1799, probably in Gross Raddow. He married Dorothea Fust about
1825.
Charlotta Sophie Brehmer was born on 5
January 1802 in Gross Raddow. She married Martin Friedrich Roloff
about 1822 in Gross Raddow.
Christian Friedrich Brehmer was born
on 6 February 1805 in Gross Raddow. His baptismal sponsors were Bauer
(farmer) -
Friedrich Roloff; tailor apprentice, Johann Roloff; and Bauer - Michael Roloff's
wife.
Carl Heinrich Brehmer was born on 1
February 1808 in Gross Raddow. His baptismal sponsors were: Carl Gottlieb
Roloff; Christian Roloff; and Dorothea Louisa Schulzen. Carl married Hanna Charlotte Henriette
Schmidt on 10 January 1832 at the Evangelical Church in Gross Raddow.
Hanna Charlotte Henriette Schmidt died on 26 December 1866 in Gross
Raddow. The cause of death was stated to be Wassersucht, which
translates to Dropsy. Carl Heinrich Brehmer emigrated to the United States with his two
daughters, Albertine Friederike Wilhelmine Brehmer and Johanna Emilie
Friederike Brehmer, in 1868 and died in Dodge County, Wisconsin, on 2 February
1880.
