Christian Friedrich Wilhelm Pieper /

Dorothea Wilhelmine Buss

pieper_cfw.jpg (4465 bytes)  Christian Friedrich Wilhelm Pieper was born on 31 March 1819.   The record of his birth or baptism was not found as many of these church records were destroyed during World War II, or in the expulsion of the German people following that war.  His parents were identified by the baptismal records of his siblings; they were Johann Gottlieb Pieper and Christine Louise Hannemann.  C. F. Wilhelm Pieper and Wilhelmine Dorothea nee Buss are pictured at the left.

Wilhelm was married on 6 June 1845 in the Evangelical Church at Roggow, Kreis Regenwalde, Pommern to Wilhelmine Dorothea Buss.  She was born on10 March 1823 in Meesow, Kreis Regenwalde, Pommern and was the daughter of Johann Friedrich  and Regina (Kressin) Buss.

The passenger ship listing of the family follows: "The workman, Wilhelm Pieper, 38 years, his wife, Dorothea, 34 years, and children: Carl, 11 years, Henriette, 9 years, Johan, 4 years, and Ludwig 2 years, Homeplace, Dubzow, Pommern emigrated on 31 March 1857, from Hamburg with the ship "Eustace" to Quebec, Canada."

The baptismal of Ludwig Friedrich Ferdinand Pieper, born 18 November 1854 in Dübzow, their 3rd son, was found.  However, no record of birth or baptism was found for the three previously born children: Carl Friedrich August born 6 April 1846, Henriette Caroline Wilhelmine born 8 December 1847, and Friedrich Johann born 29 January 1852.  Therefore, it is unknown where the family lived prior to 1854.

Three more children were born after they arrived in the USA:  Wilhelm Gottlieb Friedrich born 14 March 1858,  Hermann Friedrich Franz born 4 January 1860, Ernstine Wilhelmine Friederike born 2 August 1862, and Wilhelmine Friederike Caroline born 27 December 1864.

According to the 1860 census, the family was living in the home of Constantine Kropplin in Lebanon Township, Dodge County, Wisconsin.  Most likely they were indentured to Mr. Kropplin who may have financed their trip to America.  In the 1870 census the family is also found living in Lebanon Township.   It is probable that they purchased the Kropplin farm, since Constantine Kropplin was not found in the 1870 census.  Land records reveal that they owned a 68 acre farm on the northern edge of the town of Lebanon, which borders the town of Clyman.

They purchased a larger farm about 1875 in the town of Clyman , according to the land records:   "South of the southeast quarter, and the south half of that part of the north half of the northeast quarter, lying west of the road leading from Juneau to Watertown, all in section 4, also northeast  quarter of section 8: all in town 10 east; and containing 160 acres."

On 6 February 1884, Wilhelm made out the following will:  "I, Wilhelm Pieper, living in the town of Clyman, County of Dodge, State of Wisconsin, being of sound disposing mind. do hereby make and publish this my last will and testimonial manner following to wit:  First I give and bequeath to my son, Wilhelm Pieper, the farm that I have now in the Town of Clyman, consisting of 160 acres of land.  He the said, Wilhelm , take care of and support his mother, Wilhelmine Pieper, as long as she may live in a proper and suitable manner and furnish her with one room in the dwelling house on said farm, if she shall so desire, together with the necessary furniture for such room and in case of sickness give her attendance of a physician and medicine free of charge, but in case she should prefer not to live on the farm, or at anytime may wish to remove there from, the son Wilhelm pay her the sum of five hundred dollars in lieu of such support and deliver to her two feather beds and furniture for one room.

Second, I give and bequeath to my son, Herman Pieper, the sum of thirteen hundred dollars and one pair of good work horses, the same to be paid to him by my son Wilhelm as soon as the said son, Herman, shall attain the age of twenty five years or anytime thereafter when the said Herman shall desire it.

Third, I give and bequeath to each of my daughters, Ernstine and Wilhelmine Pieper, the sum of six hundred dollars with one bed and one good milk cow to each of them, the same to be paid to each of them as she shall attain the age of twenty five years, by the said son, Wilhelm, whom I hereby appoint as executor of this my will.  The witness thereof I have hereto set my hand and seal on this 5 day of February A.D. 1984.

The foregoing instrument consisting of one sheet was in our presence and in the presence of each other signed by the above named Wilhelm Pieper, who declared the same to be his last will and testament and requested us to attest the same subscribing."

It is assumed that the four first born children of the family had already received their inheritance, possibly  they were assisted in acquiring farms of their own when they got married. Wilhelm died two months and one day after making out this will on 6 April 1884, at the age of 65 years.  The record of his burial was found in the Lutheran Church in Juneau, Wisconsin.  No death record or obituary was found.  Wilhelmine died on 16 June 1896; she was 73 years of age.   The record of her burial was also found at the Lutheran Church in Juneau, Wisconsin.  Her death record revealed that she died of ovarian cancer.   According to the obituary in the newspaper, "Juneau Telephone," she died in the home of her son, Charles (Carl) Pieper in the town of Oak Grove in Dodge County, Wisconsin.

The following eight children were born to Wilhelm and Dorothea (Buss) Pieper, four in Pommern and four in the United States.  The photos appear to have been taken in the mid' 1880s.
