Peter Post /

Dorothea Friederike Ebert

Peter Post was born about 1784, probably in the area of Drosedow, Kreis Kolberg, Pommern.  The church records for the church in Drosedow were either destroyed during World War II or in the expulsion of Germans that followed the war.

There were many individuals named Post recorded in the Evangelical church records of Manow, Kreis Köslin, Pommern, and several were named Peter Post.  These Posts were mainly from the  nearby villages of Seidel and Zewelin.  However, the records prior to 1794 were also destroyed and I found no evidence that my ancestor, Peter Post, lived there.

Sometime around 1815, Peter married Dorothea Friederike Ebert, however the marriage record also was not found.   She was born on 26 September 1781 and baptized at the Evangelical Church at Carnitz, Kreis Greifenberg, Pommern, the daughter of Hans Ebert and Catherine Sophie Riebe.

A baptismal record at the Evangelical Church at Carnitz indicated that Peter was a sponsor for Johann Heinrich Ebert, the illegitimate son of Marie Elisabeth Ebert on 22 February 1815.  The child's mother was a sister to Dorothea Friederike Ebert, Peter Post' wife.

Peter Post died on 18 February 1832 at the age of 48 years.  The record of his burial was at the Carnitz Evangelical Church.  The record indicated his occupation was oksanflüger which translates to oxen driver or transporter of oxen.  According to this record, he left a widow and four minor children.  The only children that have been identified follow.

Carl Martin Post was born about 1825; no record was found of this birth.  He married Sophie Louise Friederike Brendemühl on 6 March 1846 at the Evangelical Church in Carnitz, Kreis Greifenberg, Pommern.  He was 21 years old according to this marriage record.

A daughter of Peter Post and Dorothea Friederike Ebert,  Caroline Post was born 17 November 1826, and was baptized at the Carnitz Evangelical Church.  Her sponsors were Carl Hemerling, Charlotte Louise Neumann and Marie Sell.

The church records of the Evangelical Church at Zirkwitz, Kreis Greifenberg, Pommern indicated that a son was born to Peter Post and Dorothea Ebert on 26 February 1831.  This son died the day after he was born and was unnamed.

Caroline Friederike Post was born on 13 September 1832 and was baptized at the Carnitz Evangelical Church.  Her baptismal record indicated that she was the daughter of Peter Post and Dorothea Friederike Ebert although Peter had died the previous February.

A marriage record, dated 9 August 1817   for Carl Hemerling and Marie Post was found in the Evangelical church records of Zirkwitz, Kreis Greifenberg, Pommern.  Quite likely Marie Post was Peter's sister - based on the fact that Carl Hemerling was a sponsor for his daughter, Caroline Post, identified above.

From 1765 to 1815, there were no baptisms, marriages or deaths involving the Post surname at the Carnitz Evangelical Church.  However, in 1821, Friederike Dorothea Caroline Post, daughter of Joachim Post and Eva Pauline Christine Voigt was baptized there.  It is likely that Joachim was a brother of Peter Post.

After 1851 these baptisms at the Carnitz Evangelical Church of Post children were noted: Carl Friedrich Ludwig Post was born illegitimately to Hanna Caroline Wilhelmine Post on 1 May 1851  Marie Wilhelmine Albertine Post born on 23 August 1866 in Carnitz and August Johann Carl Post born on 11 December 1870 to parents: Johann Friedrich Post and Caroline Friederika Tanck.  Auguste Johanne Elisabeth Post was born on 22 September 1873 to parents:  Johann Friedrich Post and Wilhelmine Albertine Wendt.
